Two years ago, JouleX was named one of the Cool Vendors in Green IT and Sustainability, 2011[1] by the Gartner research analyst firm. Today, we are thrilled to announce that Gartner analysts find that we're STILL COOL!
JouleX is one of only two companies making up the Where Are They Now section, with analyst Simon Mingay providing the analysis. Mingay's analysis provides an overview on why JouleX was named to the Cool Vendors list in 2011, and why we're included in their report for 2013.
JouleX, we believe, was recognized in 2011 for our agentless approach to energy management, and our ability to connect to any IP-connected device, which enables companies to manage energy usage of disparate technology and organizational functions in an integrated way.
According to Gartner, “The energy efficiency of buildings remains a key focus for enterprise sustainability programs and vendor solutions.” It also recommends that CIOs “increase collaborative efforts with facilities managers, energy managers and chief sustainability officers to better exploit technologies that increase bottom-up stakeholder engagement in energy efficiency and sustainability programs."
Quote from JouleX President & CEO, Thomas Noonan:
“We consider JouleX’s inclusion in the Cool Vendor report by Gartner an important recognition in the evolution of our JEM technology and that of a maturing market; and one that is placing increased emphasis on the significant cost and carbon benefits of energy management. The increased collaboration between building and energy managers, network administrators, and data center operators has played a significant role in our success, and one that will continue to be of vital importance for those organizations s looking to implement an enterprise-wide approach to energy management.”[2]

JouleX congratulates banking customer Sparkasse Pforzheim Calw for winning this year’s Green IT Best Practices award!

At the Green IT Summit, held by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology in Berlin, Sparkasse Pforzheim Calw was awarded the Green IT Best Practices award for its sustainability initiatives to address energy and cost inefficiencies of its Self Service devices (ATM machines, statement printers).
Sparkasse Pforzheim Calw has 150 bank branches, 174 ATM machines, and 170 statement printers. With no visibility or reporting capabilities, Sparkasse was challenged by the inability to prove success or failure of their energy saving initiatives. They sought a solution that could capture the energy consumption of the entire IT network, while adhering to strict security requirements that disallowed software installation or hardware meters on individual end devices.
JouleX is thrilled to be part of the solution to these challenges, and part of the overall Sparkasse Pforzheim Calw sustainability initiative. As a direct result of the JouleX implementation, over the course of 400 days, Sparkasse Pforzheim Calw has realized a savings of 40 MWh reduction in energy consumption from:
- 50-80% for the ATMs and Statement Printers
- 67% for Windows PCs
- 33% for servers
- Additional electricity savings on cooling, due to less heat generated by devices
Additionally, they found savings in terms of
- 24.5 tons reduction of CO2 emissions
- Extended life of power managed devices
- Reduction in maintenance operations costs
The JouleX Team commends Sparkasse Pforzheim Calw for their accomplishments achieved through their sustainability initiatives. Most of all, we are proud to be part of their solution.

JouleX is proud to share that the Red Herring editorial team as has named JouleX as a finalist for the 2011 Red Herring Top 100 North America Award in the CleanTech category. The finalists selected represent “the most innovative companies from a pool of hundreds from across North America.” To make it into the finalist circle, we were evaluated on a number of quantitative and qualitative criteria, including financial performance, technology innovation, quality of management, execution of strategy, and disruption into our respective industry. We met with the members from the nomination committee a while back to share with all of this, and received great response to what we have accomplished in a little over a year and the impact we are making in helping companies meet their sustainability and energy cost reduction goals .
"This year was very rewarding," said Alex Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring. "The global economic situation has abated and there are many great companies producing really innovative and amazing products. We had a very difficult time narrowing the pool and selecting the finalists. Now we're faced with the difficult task of selecting the Top 100 winners of Red Herring North America. We know that the 2011 crop will grow into some amazing companies that are sure to make an impact."
As part of the decision process, our CEO Tom Noonan will be giving a live presentation at the Red Herring North America Forum in Hollywood, California, taking place June 13-15 where the winners will be announced at a special awards dinner on June 15. We are proud and honored of this accomplishment.
