JouleX Forms Technology Partnership with Triton Federal Solutions

Companies Will Work Together To Increase Customer Energy Savings Three Fold

ATLANTAAug. 8, 2011 -- JouleX, the leading innovator in enterprise energy management systems for data centers, distributed office environments, and facilities, today announced that it entered into an agreement with Triton Federal Solutions, a Project Performance Corporation (PPC) company, to implement and integrate the JouleX Energy Manager (JEM) technology for commercial and federal customers that want to reduce their energy savings three fold. Together, the companies are helping customers, such as the Department of Energy, reduce their economic, environmental and social impacts.

Triton expertly implements JouleX to automatically monitor and control the dynamic energy consumption of all devices across an enterprise and to populate energy and utilization information into a customer's decision-support systems. Triton helps customers interpret the information to make decisions and to take specific actions that make agencies and their data centers more sustainable. Customers can utilize this information for sustainable procurement practices that factor energy consumption into purchasing decisions; to see how and where energy is consumed and wasted; to identify and prioritize energy- and cost-savings opportunities; and to enact measures to reduce their energy consumption. The companies have already begun work within the Department of Energy to measure, manage and evaluate energy usage in its data centers at a granular level.

"Creating improved IT infrastructure efficiencies that lead to significant cost reductions is of growing importance to federal agencies, especially in light of the increased budget pressures they're facing," saidScott Paisley, Americas technical director of JouleX. "Triton's expertise in decision support, made possible by the energy intelligence our solution generates, provides the Department of Energy and other agencies the efficiencies they need to make a dramatic sustainability impact."

The Data Center Energy Profiler, or DC Pro, is a web-based, decision support system designed to help industries worldwide identify how energy is being purchased and consumed by their data centers and what can be done to begin saving energy and money as well as reducing carbon emissions. Developed by PPC, under the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Industrial Technologies Program (ITP), DC Pro is a good "first step" in identifying excellent opportunities for savings, improving a company's bottom line, and helping reduce the environmental emissions associated with energy production and use. DC Pro uses data center information, including information on the systems that use energy as well as the breakout of dynamic energy consumption that can be provided by JouleX, to create a customized report for each user. The system provides the user with information on current energy use and cost per unit of production; annual available energy graphs and tables; potential annual energy-savings graphs and tables; assessment of the data center's energy usage compared to others on record; and a customized list of next steps that can be automatically implemented. Since its release in June 2008, more than 800 users have identified savings opportunities through the DC Pro system.

"JouleX provides an energy management system that will add tremendous value to our Data Center Energy Profiler customers," said Neil Wright, chief architect and innovation officer for Triton. "JouleX's agentless, network-based architecture provides a unique solution for monitoring, analyzing and controlling energy consumption in the data center. JouleX automates the collection of energy information into DC Pro, streamlining the process of diagnosing energy use in the data center, saving time, increasing accuracy, and providing 'energy-aware' capacity planning and a baseline for measuring progress over time."

“The widespread need for enterprises around the world to better measure and manage energy usage presents an incredible opportunity for JouleX,” said Tom Noonan, president and CEO at JouleX. “We are leading the way to provide companies with an innovative energy management system for the entire enterprise that will help them achieve real cost savings and meet sustainability goals. This investment will allow us to accelerate the introduction of our JouleX Energy Manager family of products into regions around the world where optimizing energy usage and driving energy efficiency are mission-critical for conducting business.”

The company’s technology platform, JouleX Energy Manager (JEM), is the first network-based, “agentless” energy management system that measures the energy consumption and utilization of all network-connected devices and systems to provide visibility into power usage across the enterprise. Deployed in distributed offices, data centers and facilities, the JEM technology reduces energy costs by monitoring, analyzing and controlling energy usage of all network-connected devices and systems—no client-side agents or hardware meters required.

“JouleX is the first company to successfully address the gap that has long existed in enterprise energy management,” said John Mandile, managing director at Sigma Partners. “The JouleX team has set a new industry standard in terms of developing an innovative, yet practical and cost-effective solution that focuses on energy waste and reduction within the enterprise and then has the technology acumen to control it. We’re excited to be investing in JouleX to help expand the adoption of the JEM products and support its existing customers and partners.”

JouleX has approximately 100 customers throughout North America and Europe and recently announced the opening of a new office in Tokyo, Japan. The company’s current technology partners include Cisco, Intel, VMware, Juniper Networks, Enterasys and Siemens.

Enterprise Energy Management Solutions Provider To Support Earthquake Relief Efforts While Helping Japanese Companies Meet New Power Consumption Regulations

As JouleX, the leading innovator in enterprise energy management systems for data centers, distributed office environments, and facilities, continues to extend its global reach, the company announces today the opening of a new office in Tokyo, Japan.

The company, through its agentless JouleX Energy Manager (JEM) technology, will offer a support solution for the power shortage situation in Japan that resulted from the Tohoku-Pacific Ocean Earthquake, providing the country’s enterprises with a total energy management system to visualize power usage requirements and enabling them to use energy based on optimal amount and cost. Additionally, JouleX K.K. will also donate 30 percent of its profits from the fiscal year ending March 31, 2012, to the Japanese Red Cross relief efforts for the earthquake victims.

As IT technology’s importance in the Japanese infrastructure has risen, so, too, has its power consumption. It has become an urgent priority for enterprises to grasp and strategically manage their total energy consumption due to the setting of carbon emission targets required by the Kyoto Protocol and the issuance of the amended Energy Conservation Law. In addition, the Japanese government is requiring a 15 percent decrease in power consumption as a measure to combat the domestic electricity shortage this summer caused by the Tohoku-Pacific Ocean Earthquake. There is serious concern that the stoppage of the Hamaoka nuclear power plant and postponement of restarts at other nuclear power plants will cause nation-wide power shortages.

“It is a terribly unfortunate sequence of events that is negatively impacting the energy infrastructure in Japan,” said Tom Noonan, president and CEO at JouleX. “Because of our track record in Europe and North America, we feel confident that we can provide companies throughout Japan with easy-to-implement, cost-effective energy management solutions to help them negotiate the new landscape of power consumption in their country. But, we didn’t want our efforts to stop there. As part of what we feel is our bigger corporate responsibility, we are also making a donation to support local earthquake relief efforts.”

Ja Hong Lin has been named vice president in charge of the company’s Asia-Pacific operations and president and CEO of JouleX K.K., a subsidiary of JouleX. Lin has almost 30 years of IT and computer software industry experience. Lin was the founder and CEO of Internet Security Systems, K.K. (a subsidiary of Internet Security Systems) and managed the company’s Asia-Pacific operations. He has held senior positions at Dun and Bradstreet Software Co. Ltd, Tokyo, Ashisuto K.K. Tokyo and, most recently, with IBM. Lin serves on the board of directors of a number of privately held technology firms.

JouleX is already finding a strong demand for its enterprise energy management solutions in the country.

“While we were contemplating how we could contribute to the recovery efforts from the East Japan earthquake, we decided to work with JouleX to introduce its revolutionary solution that could help alleviate our recent energy crisis,” said Mitsunobu Yoneda, CEO, LAC Holdings Inc. “As a total IT solution provider, we are very pleased to be able contribute to the society at large. We are following through on our corporate vision of being a company that supports the society’s infrastructure, by becoming the first distributor in Japan of the JouleX Energy Manager technology and offering it to the market. We are also very excited to be able to provide a solution for the energy consumption problem caused by the increasing number of IT devices being used.”

Recognizes Enterprise Energy Management Solutions Provider As Innovative, Impactful and Intriguing

JouleX, the leading innovator in enterprise energy management systems for data centers, distributed office environments, and facilities, today announced it has been named a “Cool Vendor” in the “Cool Vendors in Green IT and Sustainability, 2011”[1] report by Gartner, Inc. This report highlights companies that develop “technologies and services that enable organizations to improve agility and business performance by pursuing sustainability strategies.”

According to Gartner, “There has been a shift away from tools that singularly consider the reporting or analysis of carbon toward technologies that visualize and more efficiently manage energy, and provide more holistic analysis of sustainable performance and asset management. Midsize to large organizations should be developing a more integrated approach to energy management across all major energy-consuming classes of assets.”[2]

The company’s flagship solution, JouleX Energy Manager (JEM), is the first network-based, “agentless” energy management system that measures the energy consumption and utilization of all network-connected devices and systems to provide visibility into power usage across the enterprise.

“We consider our inclusion in the Cool Vendor report by Gartner confirmation of our mission to enable enterprises to automate energy management and drive energy efficiency from the core to the edge of their networks,” said Tom Noonan, president and CEO at JouleX.  “Companies are struggling to understand their energy consumption—and waste—as they look to minimize the effect of rising energy costs, trim operating expenses, optimize resources and reduce their carbon footprints. We will continue to innovate and evolve our product to address these issues and to solve specific energy management challenges in data centers, distributed office environments, and facilities.”
