JouleX, founded in Munich, wins the first IBM SmartCamp KickStart challenge with its energy management solution
Munich/Garching, July 9, 2012 – IBM, gate Garching and GründerRegion M awarded the first SmartCamp KickStart winner to the early stage company JouleX. With its energy management solution for data centers, it beat out HoneyTracks and Celonis. JouleX won over the jury and the audience with its innovative business idea.
“Big data is the oil of the next century”, said keynote speaker Philippe Souidi, founder of social media platform echofy.me at the beginning of the first German IBM SmartCmap KickStart challenge in Garching (Munich). On June 27, the three startup companies HoneyTracks, Celonis and JouleX competed against one another to showcase who complies best with the criteria set (i.e. innovation and market potential). For the competition, the three companies presented their ideas around business analytics and big data before a panel and audience of more than fifty. The finalists were prepared for the competition by top-notch mentors and investors. In the end, JouleX, a company offering holistic energy management solutions, prevailed against the tough competition.
“Using our energy management solutions, companies can save up to 60% of their energy costs across their distributed office environments, data centers, and facilities,” said Josef Brunner, co-founder of JouleX. “We are excited to win the SmartCamp challenge and are proud to team with IBM to create a smarter planet and a more energy efficient one”.
JouleX energy management technology helps customers reduce their energy through three primary features: it monitors the energy consumption of their IT devices; identities saving opportunities; and reduces energy consumed by those devices with automation through the JouleX policy engine. With the business intelligence produced by this solution, both large and SMB size companies can benefit and create reports and policies to run their businesses more efficiently and more sustainably.
“The JouleX team and its business idea complies exactly to the requirements we set for business analytics and big data solutions to create a smarter planet,” said Wieland Köbler, Director ISV Sales, IBM Germany. “The decision was tough as JouleX and the competition went head to head. Both Celonis and HoneyTracks belong to the who’s who of Germany startups.”
As the winner, JouleX will attend the first European “SmartCamp Europe” challenge hosted in Berlin on November 13 and 14. The event was organized in cooperation of IBM with gate Garching and GründerRegio M, a regional network as part of the EXIST program for founders from universities and IBM. SmartCamps are being hosted globally to support startups optimizing their solutions, help them better market their products, and to meet the right investor and economy contacts.
